If the blade strikes a hidden rock, curb, or thick root, the shear pins or internal collar on the blade boss are designed to yield first, absorbing extreme rotational impact to prevent bending the expensive engine shaft. When fitting this replacement adapter, ensure the engine shaft is clean and free of burrs or rust. Align the internal keyway precisely with the woodruff key before sliding the boss on, and never force it into place using a hammer.
