When installing this replacement filter, first wipe the engine's mounting adapter face completely clean of residual dirt and old gasket material. Apply a thin film of clean, fresh engine oil to the rubber seal on the new filter. Thread the filter on by hand until the gasket makes contact with the mounting face, then tighten it exactly an additional 3/4 to 1 turn. Never over-tighten with a filter wrench, as this can distort the seal and cause dangerous operational oil leaks.
