Titan Pro Tech Tip: Air Gap Setup & Spark Verification
An incorrectly spaced ignition coil can cause weak spark, engine misfires, or a complete failure to start. When mounting this replacement coil onto your 21" engine block, the distance (air gap) between the flywheel magnet and the coil legs must be set precisely—typically to 0.010 - 0.014 inches (the thickness of a standard business card works great in a pinch). Loosen the mounting bolts, place your gauge shim between the flywheel magnet and the coil, let the magnetic pull draw the coil tight against the shim, then torque the mounting bolts to spec before sliding the shim out.
